Sweet remembrance. Wasn't Grendel some kind of monster?

He was described as such although with the mixture of humanoids around back in those times, a Neanderthal could be regarded as a monster compared to a homo sapiens or Cromagnun. Eventually, though, Neanderthals and sapiens interbred and created the humans we have today. We can argue which had the violent tendencies in that pairing. Meanwhile the Cromagnuns hung around in the Perennies, herding sheep and drinking Picons. There is also a legend of how modern humans came into Europe and met a mild-mannered, huge and hairy being who taught them how to grow food and other skills. In Grendel's case, the interpretation said he was angry over the noise that the Danes causes with their nightly parties. Noisy neighbors can create lots of mayhem.

Beautifully recounted, Sue. This hit close to home for me ... My family lived / lives in Porter Gulch just east of Santa Cruz, surrounded by redwoods... They have seen more than one fall, and miss the cabin.

Exactly. Coastal CA is a sketchy place to live where Mother Nature is concerned. SLC was so static ... in SO MANY WAYS ... that when I moved to Santa Cruz, it was the first time I got even close to disasters of all kinds.

🤣 Oh goodness! I would think the hippies would've been replaced long ago by M's and Z's. I guess if people are sitting around drinking beverages all day, it amounts to the same thing. Little Berkeley has become Little Portland perhaps? Are the buckers still playing their music? That was always cool.

Yes. On the weekends, sometimes, there are musicians on every corner. Cello, didgeridoo,one-man band, guitar. Not always but, yes.
