These stories were so nice to wake up to. I have very little experience in the landscape where you live and you always take me there with all my senses. Thank you! Cats on the lam! They were out of there! Poor babies. Then this: "... to follow a road until we don't really know where it ends up and panic creeps into our hearts." Oh, yes! Scary! And gorgeous Cooper's hawks! We spot them every once in a while by the sea here. A pair of them dance together in the sky and make a sound that is at once shrill and joyous. A lovely little three part journey.

Thank you and glad you can experience the high desert with all senses. It's truly a place where one can use all of them. And thank you for the correction about pinion/pinyon. I've made the proper corrections in the copies.

I continue to think about those cats and wished I could've brought them home if I'd been able to catch them. Then again, I still had two cattle dogs and Buda. He would've loved having a gorgeous female and maybe would even tolerate the kitten, but the dogs would've made life even more catastrophic for those poor runaways.

Also, that hawk experience actually happened and is one of those things that I hope to capture but wonder if it really holds true. It was so weird to see this object flying toward us, then land on the branch right above me and Buda on the swing. And I was lucky to find a photograph that illustrated the bird's perch and attitude perfectly. Serendipity strikes again.
