Yes, that's Jeff. This photo was taken at my daughter's wedding during the COVID family reception in their backyard. Just friends and family outside. Quite the perfect day and wedding, all held outside on a gorgeous autumn day in the country. Not only did a magnificent buck mule deer stroll by the garden while the photographer was doing her thing, that evening at the reception, a brilliant shooting star crossed the sky. I hope that was a good omen. Nature was smiling.

I’m writing this Saturday about how I’ve never seen a shooting star! Your synchronicity is showing.

HA! It IS the season for looking up and finding wonder ... at least if you're not a die-hard astronomer shivering in the icy nights of winter to take photos of nebulae. I have a friend from the newspaper who does that more now that he's retired. Wraps up in quilts and layers while he tends his telescope and camera out in the Utah desert. Gees, that's dedication, but also expected of a president of an astronomy club.

It does seem that we substackers align occasionally with each other's work. Whether it's a story that inspires or the inspiration is floating in the ether, I works magic now and then.

We align all the time, all the time! I’m always thinking I don’t have time to read Substacks and reply, but then one speaks to me and I have to.

That marvelous picture of you and your husband reminds me of the traditional Russian wish to newly-weds: Совет да любовь (Sovét da lyubòv'), which means Concord and Love. The harmony and affection between the two of you is palpable and heartwarming.

Thank you, Portia. Astounding, isn't it? I think it comes from living and struggling together for decades that creates that harmony and affection. It's the result of combined history. If something happened to Jeff, I would find it impossible to create that kind of relationship now because Time just wouldn't allow it.

You're so right, Sue, I feel the same way about my husband. I think the retirement years for you and Jeff are going to be happy. Probably very busy as well but, at least, you'll be together, enjoying every minute of it.
