Any American kid raised during the 1950s knows about Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. It's probably one reason some of us hold a secret love for westerns and horses.
Roy and Dale, Hopalong Cassidy, whose wrist watch I still have, and Sky King. Yes, kids today can't run around the neighborhood with cap guns playing cowboy and Indians. Maybe they could still play a good guy shooting a bad guy, but another kid would have to be playing the bad guy's lawyer to sue you.
Awww. I loved this reminiscence- all the details. Thanks for choosing this topic, Sue Well done! How about 1948? You will smile at this Cow Girl - same outfit, except my brother got the six guns, I didn't. We have similar pasts in many ways! https://sharronbassano.substack.com/p/cowgirl?
Thank you for the link to your poem and photo of you in the outfit. And you're right. I didn't have a white hat. It was red with white trim just like yours.
Oh, what a fabulous encounter! The book inscription is wonderful - how lovely that Julie recorded your lovely story about telling the time right there. Perfect.
Loved this line: "...for a brief time, I was a little cowgirl just like Dale, riding my stick pony around the yard, shooting my cap gun and ridin' the range even if it took me down cement sidewalks."
In my time, I was every character in the A-Team! Happy memories. 😘
Isn't it wonderful that we have all these memories to write about and share with others. Perhaps it's a good way to unite us all in our common dreams and memories. Despite where we come from and under which cultures we were raised, as children our laughter all sounds the same.
I got a kick out of all those old "western" series on Saturday mornings and after school. Then came Zorro and my heart went pitter-pat! Tyrone Power s as Zorro still gets my heart to racing.

Indeed, those were different times. Well, Shakespeare suggested that lawyers are the first to go when there's a regime change.

So nice! I was a Hopilong guy but Roy and Dale were cool too.

I had a red cowgirl outfit with a red vest, too. And, of course, the cowgirl boots. I’m 71.
You know, I think you and me and Sharron Bassano ought to start an alternative to the Red Hat groups.
