The President has prepared for years for his assault on our democracy and has been quite upfront about what he planned. So, why were opposing government leaders taken by surprise?
Your photo is chilling. I wonder how many of your readers recognize it. A lot of us are still awake out here, Sue. We are praying for someone to rise and lead us.
Alas, Obama is busy with his foundation developing young entreprenures from developing countries. I always suspected he was a closet Baha'i, but yes, I wish he'd put his cape back on. Mostly, I wish the GOP would have a "come to Jesus" moment and impeach Trump, deport Musk, and sentence Trump to his jail sentence. They're all afraid of Trump's minions, though. You could say the 1500 "hostages" he rescued are his personal Brown Shirts, all sitting at home cleaning the guns and listening to the little voices in their heads. (Pardon me, Sharron, my imagination is running amok.)
We can hope and resist, but I galls me that this has happened to our country when a very similar process destroyed much of Europe only 80 years ago. We Boomers grew up on stories about WWII. What happened?
I've been asking myself the same thing for quite a while. There are people who perceive authoritarianism as a measure of efficiency and strength, when it is anything but. It's just a giant with feet of clay – sooner or later, it's going to crumble.
And they get that efficiency and strength by killing off those who don't toe the line or resist their efforts to make everything straight, flat, and free. I know I'm being a little extreme in my wording here, but that's what Hitler did. His minions rather enjoyed beating people into pulp, especially in front of their loved ones. What better way to instill complete loyalty? I once dated a Polish man who was born in Auschwitz whose mother was being held hostage there as an incentive for her scientist husband to develop technology for the Reich.
Mussolini did the same in Italy. No, you're not being extreme, Sue, you're telling it like it is. I can see why the good people in the US are feeling dejected by the whole situation. But there are probably more of you decent people, than there are of them.
Sue, you sound smart. That's the difference here.
I try to be. Thank you.

As well it might! Be skeptical and watchful and eat more donuts. I'm just saying.
🤣 Sounds like a plan. We have a marvelous bakery in town.
America the Stupid.
Man, you ain't kiddin' on that score.
Hard times indeed, Sue, but you shall overcome, and the rest of the world too, hopefully.
