Saturday Special: Wild Horses Running Free
This video by Elijah Barrington documents the freedom of the wild horses of Nevada. They are the essence, the iconic symbol, of American freedom. They don't belong on the dinner table.

Elijah and Tammy Barrington are some of the few people who can navigate the deteriorated roads to document the Fish Spring Wild Horses of the Pine Nut Mountains in Nevada. As soon as he is 18, he will be trained and certified to become one of the volunteers of the Pine Nut Wild Horse Advocates who search out and dart the mares with PZP to control the population of wild horses on BLM land.
The BLM has trapped a few of these bands already, but has approved the group's project to keep these horses running free. It's a difficult task as the horses range into the back country where it's hard for even Jeeps to navigate this rugged terrain. Elijah and his mother, Tammy, will be able to drive far back into these hinterlands to save our horses from ending up in BLM holding pens and, for some, ending up in the slaughter pipeline.
Thank you, Elijah and Tammy and to all the volunteers of the PNWHA for your tenacity and dedication.
Thank you, Sue, for improving my education - as you often do at Ring Around the Basin. It does my heart good to know about these wonderful rescuers. By the way, the video included is only available to Facebook subscribers, apparently. I will look for a similar one, perhaps on Youtube.
