Flash Stories: Truth or Fiction on the Roadside
Can you guess which one of these mini-stories really happened?
Roadside Meet-up
When he picked up the hitchhiker along the roadside, he regretted it. She was funny. Great conversationalist. The spark in her eyes made his whole body tingle as if an electric shock pulsed through him. It was a damned shame she wasn't like the others. He'd get over it, though.
Self-Defense Protocol
The woman and her dog had been walking this desert highway for hours, the occasional RV or pickup whizzing past them. Finally a good-looking guy in a sporty convertible slid to a stop and offered her a ride.
"Sorry, I won't abandon my dog."
As they walked on, he jumped out of the car, grabbed her by the shoulders, and wrestled her to the ground. The dog lunged at his throat and dragged him into the darkness.
The driver's seat fit her perfectly. The dog settled comfortably into the passenger's seat. She found a wad of 100s in the console.
Not As He Appeared
She no sooner loaded her dog into the backseat, picking goatheads from her paws, than a car pulled in front of hers. As the man hoisted upright, the dog whimpered, trembling.
"Thanks, you're a lousy protector."
Then another car skidded beside her, boxing her in. "Shit!"
This second man leaned his arms on the edge of his window. "Isn't this a beautiful spot to look over the lake? I love it here."
The first man immediately sped off.
"Yeah, it's great," she snarled and drove away. Well, that's it for lakeside walks, but wait โฆ was he my guardian angel?

Sadly I have discovered that the battery quality of Kindles has deteriorated to such a ridiculous level, I don't want to recommend you purchase my books, Paradise Ridge, When the Horses Come and Go, and Ghost in the Forest that are currently available on Kindle. If you have an old Kindle and you like to live dangerously, you will be able to enjoy all three books from under $10. Ghost in the Forest, however, is available in paperback.
What an excellent, cohesive collection here, Sue. I suppose #3 could be true, but I would like it to be the second one! So hard to find a driver's seat that fits perfectly....
